If you have moderate to severe renal disease avoid metformin, it increases risk of lactic acid accumilation and also

Dont forget to take your additional vit b12 supplement if your taking metformin. :)

Glad to have nephrologist friends in my newsletter who provides their expertise! My Vitamin B12 supplement comes from Berocca. Since I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years ago and taking Metformin ever since.

Metformin may interfere with the calcium-dependent membrane action in the ileum, which is necessary for the absorption of the vitamin B12-intrinsic factor complex. The intrinsic factor is a protein produced in the stomach that binds with vitamin B12 and aids in its absorption in the small intestine. To mitigate, supplementation with additional vitamin B12 is needed.
